Budoni is a seaside resort on the north-eastern part of Sardinia, located between two municipalities – San Teodoro to the north and Posada to the south – on route s.s. 125 which is the main connection for all eastern coastal Sardinian locations going from Cagliari to Olbia. This territory is part of Nuoro’s province but most of its characteristics are more typical of the north than of central Sardinia. It is easy to reach Budoni via the port or airport in Olbia. From there you will reach Budoni in about half an hour by car. To get there from Cagliari just take route s.s.131 up to Abbasanta and then take the right direction towards Nuoro, entering route s.s.131, up to Budoni.
Budoni and the surrounding communities are ideal places for a beach holiday, also with the whole family as the stunning beaches are characterized by shallow, clear water. Offshore pine groves complete the picture. There are several communities that belong to Budoni (Italian: Borgo) – amongst them are Tanaunella, Baia Sant’Anna and Porto Ottiolu. In the latter, you’ll find a beautiful harbor for little yachts and sailing boats. The back country is hilly, but not too rugged. Walks and easy hikes are therefor an option in and around town. If you like to see more than just one place, you will find a wide range of excursions or day tours.
It includes 18 km of coastline that rise from the Tyrrhenian Sea, offering Budoni marvellous landscapes and sandy beaches and surrounding it by rocky walls. The nearest beach is only 300 meters from the village. It’s a characteristic, small beach with rocks and a pretty surrounding pine forest and a transparent sea bed alternating between sand, rocks and small stones near the shoreline. Other very frequented beaches are those of Port Ottiolu’s coast including facilities such as parking lots, bars, services, surfboard and water-pedal boat rentals and campgrounds. For those who choose a bareboat sailing charter in this corner of Sardinia there are also 445 moorings in Ottiolu’s harbour.
During the summer months, Budoni is a very popular seaside destination that receives about 70.000 tourists. The beauty of its landscapes, its transparent, turquoise-coloured sea (where, in 1998, the record for free, breath-held diving was made), the best hotels and tourist resort villages and the special attention paid to tourists’ needs have transformed this small village of only 4000 inhabitants into one of the most sought after sailing holiday destinations on the island. However, Budoni doesn’t only mean the sea; the village is situated on a flat area but the rest of the territory is prevalently hilly and only slightly inhabited. There are plenty of folkloristic events linked to the life and the traditions of these small settlements surrounding Budoni.
Budoni area also includes smaller towns not so far from it, such as Agrustos (2.32 km far), Baia Sant’Anna (4.43 km far), Berruiles (5.71 km far), Birgalavo’ (3.52 km far), Limpiddu (1.30 km far), Luddui (4.09 km far), Luttuni (2.00 km far), Lutturai (5.65 km far), Maiorca (4.56 km far), Malamuri’ (3.34 km far), Matta e Peru (6.05 km far), Muriscuvo’ (2.31 km far), Nuditta (6.29 km far), Ottiolu (4.15 km far), Pedra e Cupa (– km far), S’Iscala (2.46 km far), San Gavino (2.91 km far), San Lorenzo (3.66 km far), San Pietro (3.5 km far), San Silvestro (1.5 km far), Solita’ (2.50 km far), Strugas (7.38 km far), Su Linalvu (0.7 km far), Tamarispa (5.18 km far), Tanaunella (2.66 km far).
